Lord, Did You Change Your Mind? —Numbers 25:1-3

Today’s Scripture Reading: Numbers 25:1-26:65

Heavenly Father, I know we live in a different time; we no longer living under The Law. Thanks to Jesus, there is grace for our mistakes. But if sexual sin and idolatry made your anger blaze in the days of The Exodus, how do You feel about it now? Lord, did You change Your mind?

While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove, some of the men defiled themselves by having sexual relations with local Moabite women.  These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab. In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the Lord’s anger to blaze against his people. —Numbers 25:1-3

Lord, if You held us to the same standards of the Israelites, we’d all be dead! But, just knowing You’re not going to “strike me dead” isn’t enough for me. I don’t want Your anger to rage over my choices. I want to live a life that is pleasing to You.

Father, I think sexual sin and idolatry still make Your angry. You sent Jesus to give us an update on the things that are most important to You when He came to this earth.

“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:36-40

Jesus, show us our idols. Show us our sexual sins.

Holy Spirit, show us how to live a life that’s pleasing to our God. Convict us when our lives make You angry.

In Jesus’ Name. Amen and Amen!
