Lord, Give Me Back My Joy–Psalm 51:8

Today’s Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 20:1; 2 Samuel 11:1-12:14; Psalm 51; 2 Samuel 12:15-25; 2 Samuel 5:14-16; 1 Chronicles 14:3-7; 1 Chronicles 3:5-9

Heavenly Father, the joy that comes when we know that all is well in our relationship with You is something nothing else in this world can replace.  David knew this joy, but in today’s reading it was gone.  Sin was standing between David and his God.

Lord, thank you for inspiring David to write Psalm 51.  Through his mistakes and repentance, You taught us how to pour our hearts out to You when we sin.  Through David You taught us how to get our joy back.

Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Oh,
give me back my joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice.

Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. —Psalm 51: 7-12

Lord, I know there are friends reading these words whose joy is gone because of someone else’s sin, or just the struggles of day-to-day life.  Holy Spirit, help them to know that the instructions are the same…

When we lose our joy, go to God and ask Him to restore our joy…

ask Him to rebuild our heart…

ask Him to forgive us of our bitterness and renew the right spirit within us.

Father, we rejoice in the joy of our salvation today!

In Jesus’ Name.  Amen and Amen!
