Today’s Scripture Reading: Numbers 30:1-31:54
Heavenly Father, as I read Your instructions to Moses the words, “Finish well” came to mind.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “On behalf of the people of Israel, take revenge on the Midianites for leading them into idolatry. After that, you will die and join your ancestors.” —Numbers 31:1-2
Lord, this was Moses’ last assignment before leaving this earth.
I wonder how he felt?
What was he thinking?
- I’m tired of this job, why do I have to do this?
- I’m retiring, what do I care if these people win or lose?
- These people have been driving me crazy for 40 years I think I’m going to tell everybody what I “really” think of them!
Lord, I’ve seen this scenario played out too many times in the corporate world and the church world–in the last two weeks of a person’s career they ruin their reputation and cause people to say, “Thank God they’re gone!”
Jesus, help us to realize our job is to make our last days our best days. Paul made it very clear:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. —2 Timothy 4:7-8
Lord, whether we’re working for ourselves, a small or large company, or a church or community organization; whether we’re a volunteer or getting a salary, help us to realize finishing well is one of the ways we worship You. It’s a way to show the world we’re different.
Lord, help us to apply this to our whole life as well. Help us to continue to serve You and cause others to Know You More, all the days of our lives!
Father, I’m sure Moses heard these words from You. I pray that we will as well.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. –Matthew 25:21
Holy Spirit, strengthen us at the end of our race. Give us the determination to finish well for the Glory of God.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen and Amen!
