Lord, Help Me to Accept Responsibility for My Mistakes–Deuteronomy 1:37

Today’s Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 1:1-3:20

Heavenly Father, in today’s reading Moses was reviewing the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. I was confused my Moses statement:

And the Lord was also angry with me because of you. He said to me, ‘Moses, not even you will enter the Promised Land!” —Deuteronomy 1:37

It seemed that Moses was blaming Your decision for him to NOT enter the Promised Land on the Israelites. When I read the original journey in Numbers it definitely seemed like Moses fault to me:

So Moses did as he was told. He took the staff from the place where it was kept before the Lord.  Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?”  Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill.

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”  This place was known as the waters of Meribah (which means “arguing”) because there the people of Israel argued with the Lord, and there he demonstrated his holiness among them. –Numbers 20:9-13

Lord, I realize there may be more to this than I understand, but to me it seems like Moses was saying to the Israelites, “It’s your fault I got so mad.”  “It’s your fault I didn’t demonstrate God’s holiness.”

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR ACTIONS!

Lord, forgive me for the times in my life I’ve blamed other people for my mistakes.  Help me to accept responsibility for my mistakes. Holy Spirit, remind me of the lessons learned from these mistakes.  Use my mistakes for Your Glory!

In Jesus’ Name.  Amen and Amen!
